International Artists' Colony.
A selection of works by alumni of Art Omi International Artists’ Colony,
celebrating its first decade, is on exhibit at Paul Rodgers/9W Gallery,
529 West 20th Street, 9th Floor. Artists exhibiting include Beth
Campbell, Margaret Evangeline, Odili Donald Odita, John Powers, Luisa
Rabbia, Sebastian Romo, Claudette Schreuders, Dannielle Tegeder, Jennifer
Zackin.
Art Omi International Artists’ Colony offers residencies to 30 artists a
year from around the world at its beautiful facility in upstate New York,
where they make new work and meet visiting curators, critics, gallery
owners and other artists from New York City. Each year, a
Critic-in-Residence helps to choose and host the artists. The
Critics-in-Residence from the previous decade have been Robert Morgan,
Raphael Rubinstein, Dan Cameron, Carlos Basualdo, Gregory Volk, Lilly Wei,
Franklin Sirmans, Dominique Nahas, Denise Carvalho, Christian
Viveros-Fauné, and Yu Yeon Kim. The Visitors Program 2002 included, among
others, Joe Amrhein, Pierogi Gallery; Melissa Chiu, Asia Society Museum;
Anne Ellegood, The New Museum; Sandra Gering, Sandra Gering Gallery; Koan
Jeff-Baysa, curator and critic; Christopher Phillips, International Center
of Photography; Paul Rodgers, Paul Rodgers / 9W; curator Sabina Russ;
critic Carolee Thea; Richard Vine, Art in America; Christian
Viveros-Faune, New York Press, Roebling Hall Gallery; Gregory Volk, Art
