comunicato stampa

Brian Gross Fine Art is pleased to announce the opening of Venetian Dream, a one-person exhibition of work by Andrea Way, on Thursday, July 7th with a reception for the artist from 5:30-7:30pm. In this, her third exhibition with Brian Gross Fine Art, Way will exhibit a uniquely tailored series of paintings, acrylic and ink on linen, each fourteen by eleven inches. Each work is a study in fantastic, linear geometries combined with intense, intuitive color.

The works in this exhibition focus on the rhythmic innovation that occurs from the unfurling of replicated systems. Informed by the codes and systems governing the natural world, Way begins each painting with a simple pattern that builds upon itself, constructing unpredictable harmonies. Her elaborate exercise in patterns and sequence results in a complex visual plane of layered abstraction. Way's paintings create a visual forum where order and chance, rationality and subjectivity, and the arbitrary and systematic are at play. Saturated color and discrete geometric elements create a meticulously structured, yet lyrical composition.

Andrea Way was born in San Francisco and received her BA from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN in 1971. Way, who has divided her time between Washington D.C. and the Bay Area for many years, has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States. Her works have been selected to illustrate scientific journals and have been featured in many gallery and museum exhibitions. She is represented in the public collections of The Contemporary Museum, Honolulu, HI; Achenbach Foundation, Fine Art Museums of San Francisco, CA; Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, OH; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; Corcoran Gallery, Washington, DC; and the National Museum of American Art, Washington, D.C., among others. The exhibition continues through August 26, 2011.
