Husmann Tschani

Direktorenhaus, Berlin

Poultry Poetry. This show features illustrations, paintings, costumes and fabric sculptures by Pascale Mira Tschani & Michael Husmann Tschani. Everything is set up for creating an environment dominated by a powerful sense of fascination and theatrical presence: shamanic sessions, trance and ecstasy.

comunicato stampa

Pascale Mira Tschäni and Michael Husmann Tschäni are based in Switzerland and both studied at the College of Art in Lucerne. They received further education at the National Institute of Design, India and a residency in Berlin. Since 2003 they have developed a unique collaborative style encompassing the worlds of painting, comics, illustration, installation and recently also performance and have exhibited from Mumbai to Melbourne. In fact they work backwards, painting in layers on the reverse of acrylic glass, using different materials, such as enamel, oil colour, watercolour, crayon, glitter and spray. It was like two completely different, somewhat incompatible picture languages

had collided when they started working together. But somehow they managed to create pictures, stories and installations together, without having to change their own individual styles. Their current collaborations consists of both exquisite illustration works, in which they make use of their paintings and “left overs” of performances, like costumes and fabric sculptures. Both are displayed together to create an environment that is at the same time powerfully dominated by illustration and theatrical presence.

Opening Party: September 1st from 8 pm.

On the occasion of the opening party to "Poultry Poetry" on September 1st, the Berlin based performer BellaBerlin will present her new one-girl-show “rEVOLution”. The glamorous climax of the night’s ecstasy, the performance consists of an extensive, playful game with glitter and light effects; a trance-like dance ending by the symbolic ‘glitter death’. BellaBerlin, considering herself as a living artwork, has become known by her solo-performance “Die lebendige Diskokugel”. According to the expanded art term of Joseph Beuys, her artistic claim is not only the entertainment of the public, but shaping the world as a “social sculpture”.
