Personal, And It Is Not

Daire Sanat, Istanbul

Daire hosts a group exhibition of its represented artists Ali İbrahim Öcal, Çağrı Saray, Esra Carus, Funda Alkan, Gül Ilgaz, Ragıp Basmazölmez, Sibel Horada and Zeynep Bingöl Çiftçi titled “Personal, and It Is Not”, between 14 September – 8 October 2011.

In today’s world what is personal can not stay completely private while society and culture affect one’s perception and conditions either directly or indirectly. Artists reflect this equivocacy by the act of exhibiting what is personal. Since reclusiveness is against our social nature, being entagled in a web of public regulations that administer the rules of living together is a resigned fact that most of us don’t even question any longer. For the artist who questions personal or societal dilemmas through his/her artistic production, what is personal is never completely detached from what is societal as well. The viewers’ gaze furthermore shapes and adds layers to the meaning of the art work. As a result, the work of the artist that contain both personal and societal properties, is transformed into an exposition of the intimate while taking the personal to the public level.

The group exhibition of Daire artists concurrent to the 12th Istanbul Biennal is referrent to the Bienal’s theme which inquires into the possibility of uniting content with aesthetic forms in art. The works in the exhibition point to the impossiblity and unnecessity to make a distinction between conceptual and aesthetic forms of art since all is societal. As a result, it is underlined that aesthetic values are also mostly determined by, rather than being independent of, social values. In this respect the artists, with the act of exhibiting what is personal and intimate in a public space such as the gallery, reinterpret these distinctions each from his/her own perspective.
“Personal, And It Is Not” could be viewed at Daire Gallery between14 September- 8 October 2011.

Daire ospita una mostra collettiva dei suoi artisti rappresentanti : Ali IbrahimOcal,Cagri Saray, Esra Carus, Funda Alkan, Gül Ilgaz, Ragip Basmazölmez, Sibel Horada e Zeynep Bingöl Çiftçi , intitolato "Personal, And It Is Not", dal 14 settembre all' 8 ottobre 2011.
Nel mondo di oggi ciò che è personale non può restare del tutto privato, mentre la società e la cultura influenzano la percezione e le condizioni, direttamente o indirettamente. Gli artisti riflettono sul senso di questo fattore equivoco, con l'atto di esporre ciò che è personale. Dal momento che la solitudine è contro la nostra natura sociale, essendo inseriti in una rete di regolamenti pubblici che amministrano le regole del vivere insieme , è un dato di fatto che per noi non è più nemmeno oggetto di domande. Per l'artista che mette in discussione problemi personali o sociali con la sua produzione artistica,ciò che è personale non è mai completamente distaccato da ciò che è puramente sociale. Gli spettatori ed il loro sguardo inoltre, sono forme che aggiungono strati al significato dell'opera d'arte. Di conseguenza, il lavoro dell'artista che contiene entrambe le proprietà, personali e sociali, si trasforma in un'esposizione della propria intimità e di uno spazio personale a livello pubblico.

La mostra collettiva di artisti Daire ( evento collaterale della12 Biennale di Istanbul) è in relazione al tema della Biennale, che indaga la possibilità dell'arte di unire i contenuti con forme estetiche dell'arte. Le opere in mostra mostrano l' impossibilità e l'inattuabilità di fare una distinzione tra le forme concettuali ed estetiche dell'arte, in quanto tutto è sociale. Di conseguenza, si sottolinea che i valori estetici sono anche in gran parte determinati da valori sociali, piuttosto che essere indipendenti da questi. A questo proposito gli artisti, con l'atto di esporre ciò che è personale e intima in uno spazio pubblico come la galleria, reinterpretano queste distinzioni di ogni punto di vista e del proprio.
"Personal,And It Is Not" è visitabile dal 14 settembre all'8ottobre 2011, alla Galleria Daire.
