Brewster Schools today announced the names of the students who will participate in a special Public Showing of Student Art in January at Tonje Gallery in Brewster. Anne Benjamin, the educator in charge of the Project, said the participating students had been chosen because they had demonstrated special skill and interest in their studies of the fine arts. Each is creating a special art work for the project, in a wide variety of mediums, including photography, pencil sketches, pen and ink drawings, oil pastels, watercolors and dry point etchings.
The students chosen were Courtney Carabello, Amanda Delancy, Danielle Graham, Megan Keery, Matt Macri, Kelly Newton, Julia Noel, Hajni Pap, Caiti Piccini, Patricia Santamaria, Tran Tran, Jourdan Valdez, and Katie Warycha.
The show will run from January 10th to January 26th at Tonje Gallery, located across from the train station in Brewster. "We are thrilled to be part of this," said gallery owner Richard Ruchala. "Nothing is more satisfying than helping young people learn about the real world."
To make the show a professional experience for the student artists, each will be writing an Artist Statement and resume. Alison Levy, an artist and curator who lives in Somers, will also liason with Anne Benjamin and the students to ensure they know what would be expected of professionals. The students will also host an Artists' Reception at the gallery on Friday, January 10th, from 5 PM to 8 PM. The general public is invited to attend. In addition, special invitations will go out to professional artists, curators, museum directors and gallery owners, so that the students can interact with and be seen by the area's art community.
Proceeds from any sales will benefit a new Art Scholarship for Brewster Schools being set up by the Brewster Education Foundation. For gallery hours, contact Richard Ruchala at tonje@rcn.com .
