comunicato stampa

With Paul Klee Polyphonies, the Musée de la musique presents its first monographic exhibition dedicated to the work of a painter. Among the major artists of the first half of the 20th century, Paul Klee (1879 – 1940) stands out through his long-standing devotion to music, both as a professional-level violonist and as a listener who enjoyed sharing his intimate understanding of musical language. For Klee, music was not just a youthful interest, but a true component of his theory of art. His whole life through, it inspired the quest for broader expressiveness in painting.

Presented chronologically, the exhibition sheds light on the artist's journey through the most important aesthetic debats of the time. Showcasing over one hundred works from public and private collections, the exhibition is organised in partnership with the Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern, an important holder of Paul Klee works and a major collection of documents, in particular those relating to his musical activity.

The exhibition invites visitors of all ages to explore the world of this unique artist. An audioguide accompanies the visitor and, for youth and families, the Musée de la musique offers access to the "Klee en mains" special area, which will round out the exhibition with games, and artistic and sound experiments.
