comunicato stampa

The exhibition gute aussichten – new german photography 2011/12 is a cooperation between the Art Library and the Büro gute aussichten. gute aussichten is an art competition, according to Spiegel “Germany’s most renowned competition for young photographers,” that once again gave photography graduates the opportunity to submit their work to a top-class jury. In the latest competition the seven best were selected from nearly one hundred entries from different German universities and academies offering a degree course in photography: Sebastian Lang, Sara-Lena Maierhofer, Johannes Post, Miriam Schwedt, Luise Schröder, Julia Unkel, and Franziska Zacharias. They are invited to present their works–all from the last 12 months–to the general public for the first time.

This is the third time that gute aussichten-winners are exhibited in Berlin. Having successfully presented the winners of 2005 in the unrefurbished Kaisersaal of the Museum of Photography, and those of 2008 in the Martin-Gropius-Bau while the Museum of Photography underwent its renovations, the exhibition now returns to the majestically renovated Kaisersaal. As in the past, the range of works on display is enormous: documentary works next to almost abstract photography, atmospheric black and white prints next to large-scale colour scans, the austere series next to playfully conceptual works.
