Rare and exceptional films from the 1950s and 1960s golden age of Italian cinema in collaboration with Cinecitta' Luce
This series presents rare and exceptional films - together with a few perennial favorites - from the 1950s and 1960s golden age by celebrated as well as lesser-known Italian filmmakers presented in gorgeous new prints made possible by the Department's ongoing collaboration with Cinecitta' Luce. This selection of highlights from two decades of Italian filmmaking takes the viewer on a fascinating tour through several locales and encompasses several genres. Particular attention is paid to the popular Italian variety of comedy, commedia all'italiana, that was developed during this period and that showcases the acting of some of the most beloved Italian stars. Organized by Jytte Jensen, Curator, Department of Film, The Museum of Modern Art, with Camilla Cormanni and Paolo Ruggiero, Cinecitta' Luce.
