Bodyspacemotionthings, a wall painting from the Rules Series
During Angela Bulloch's solo exhibition 'Short big drama' in Witte de With, her wall painting 'Bodyspacemotionthings' (2011) is on view in one of the galleries of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen together with a selection from the museum's collection, namely works by Donald Judd and Christopher Wool. The wall painting is part of the Rules Series, which Canadian artist Angela Bulloch (1966) has been developing since the 1990s. The series consists of a growing collection of rules and norms incorporated in monumental wall paintings. The text in this painting refers to the instructions given to the public for Robert Morris's installation BodySpaceMotionThings in Tate Modern London in 2010. The painting also documents snippets of a newspaper article devoted to the number of injuries incurred among visitors due to interaction with the installation. Bulloch's wall painting questions the role that museums and other institutions must assume when dealing with installations that encourage public interaction.
