Shinji Yamamoto, from Japan/Italy, is a visual
artist in residence at Sanskriti Kendra under the
Unesco-Aschberg Bursary Programme
SHINJI YAMAMOTO was born in Osaka in 1965. In 1991, he gained a degree in painting (affresco) from the Kyoto City University of Arts. A year later, Yamamoto was granted a scholarship to the Fine Arts Academy in Bologna, sponsored by the Italian government, and moved to Italy. Since 1997, he has been exhibiting his works in Italy and abroad. In 1999, Shinji won the Pépinières Européennes pour Jeunes Artistes competition and the following year, won the first prize at the international Targetti Art Light Collection. At his recent personal exhibition in November 2002, in Ireland at The Crawford Municipal Art Gallery, he created a site-specific installation BLUE GOLD with video projections and paintings.
