Dr Tan Ngiap Heng's first major solo exhibition, featuring 34 panoramic photographs, in colour and black and white, of old and new cities in Europe and the United States. As the title suggests, this exhibition is about opening up one's eyes to experience life in these cities beyond their postcard perfect glossiness, avoiding the stock tourist shots of historical landmarks and beautiful landscapes that these popular holiday destinations are famous for.

Eye Opening Urban Experience at Photography Exhibition
Venice
'Eyes Wide Open' is Dr Tan Ngiap Heng's first major solo exhibition, featuring 34 panoramic photographs, in colour and black and white, of old and new cities in Europe and the United States. As the title suggests, this exhibition is about opening up one's eyes to experience life in these cities beyond their postcard perfect glossiness, avoiding the stock tourist shots of historical landmarks and beautiful landscapes that these popular holiday destinations are famous for. It focuses instead on the unusual and the uncanny.
In his words, "the works in 'Eyes Wide Open' were taken when I was in London, Venice and America where I wandered the streets with my cares put away. It often takes a while before this can happen but when it does, it is as if I have let the child in me come out to play and even the streets of London, where I lived for nine years, become a visual playground again."
About the Artist
Dr Tan, the photographer, is the embodiment of the Renaissance Man. Armed with an engineering doctorate in Nonlinear Dynamics and trained as a dancer at the London Contemporary Dance School, his photography is a natural extension of his passion for the arts. Known largely for his studio work and dance photography in Singapore, he has departed from his signature style in this instance by taking his Hasselblad camera onto the streets. Putting aside the controlled conditions needed for his studio work, he relied greatly on his own intuition to capture the life and spirit of each place and to tell the story of the everyday existence of the city's inhabitants.

'Stick no bill!', a photo exhibition by French-born artist Hervé Conil, an Air France flight attendant who works part-time as a photographer on his travels around the world. 'Singapore, Paris, Bombay, New Yorkx{2026} Within the walls of the city dwells another transitory world whose eyes follow and spy upon us from between the fissures. Inanimate matter takes life there. With the passing of time, the influence of cultures becomes a fresco, captured by the camera's lens, which momentarily becomes the artist's brush.' (From 3rd to 13th May)
Mindscapes, a solo exhibition of ten new media works by Singaporean artist Tai Cheng. This exciting exhibition mounts ten conceptual new media pieces that seek to communicate with the subconscious by rejecting obvious narratives for tactile evocative forms. (From 15th to 24th May)
