La Repubblica del Ghana. Quello che probabilmente ci viene alla mente pensando quei luoghi è solo la povertà e lo sfruttamento, dove tutti lavorano indistintamente. Dati in parte riscontrabili. La Repubblica del Ghana vanta più di un centinaio di gruppi etnici al suo interno e, secondo alcuni studi, non vi sono mai stati significativi conflitti interni tra le varie etnie. Nella Repubblica del Ghana l’età di vita è più lunga nelle donne che negli uomini e c’è un tasso di mortalità infantile molto alta rispetto alla media occidentale. Lì, sempre nella Repubblica del Ghana, si produce anche la nostra ricchezza, quella dei Paesi più ricchi. Questo lascia però invariata la loro perenne condizione di povertà.

Valentino Bellini è uno dei tanti italiani che ha deciso di girare il Mondo, anche il Ghana. Usa la fotografia con il fine di testimoniare, documentare, narrare. Senza troppe pretese di affermare o delineare l’identità di un popolo, Valentino esplora e ci mette di fronte a tante verità. Perché in fondo non esiste certezza in grado di darci una singolare visione dell’insieme. Tutto è evidenziato partendo da quei luoghi, quelli del Ghana. Dagli uomini che vi lavorano, dai loro sguardi, dai loro umori, dai loro tratti distintivi, dalle loro braccia e spalle possenti, dalle loro mani. Ogni scatto di Valentino rappresenta un focus su un determinato argomento. Dal generale al particolare, è così che le sue immagini si risolvono.

Ad ogni vasto paesaggio, sia esso naturale che industriale, corrisponde la presenza umana. Sempre uomini, diversi per età, si differenziano gli uni dagli altri per i lineamenti, per la stanchezza dei loro volti. Ma anche per i loro occhi. Si potrebbe scavare dentro di essi per tentare di sapere cosa mai avranno pensato nel momento dello scatto o come sarebbero voluti apparire. Per pochi attimi “protagonisti”, ma mai in posa come davanti ad un obiettivo, i soggetti rappresentano loro stessi: nella loro semplicità, nel loro essere Uomini durante una normale giornata lavorativa. Ed è secondo questa visione accattivante che potrebbero essere messi alla pari di qualsiasi altro lavoratore durante una “giornata lavorativa tipo”, senza che questo rappresenti necessariamente una denuncia.

Valentino Bellini racchiude sempre il soggetto nel suo contesto di vita e lo pone accanto ad una propria caratteristica. Non importa essa sia più o meno un bel vedere, è personale. Un giovane guarda l’obiettivo e la nostra attenzione cade sulle sue mani sfocate, sature e rovinate dal duro lavoro. L’appiccarsi di un fuoco in primo piano ci fa notare poco dietro l’avanzare di una sagoma umana in lontananza, come fosse un presagio.
Una schiena, all’apparenza come tante, non è più tale proprio perché sfoggia addosso una mappa quasi perfetta color fango, delineata dal lento asciugarsi del sole della terra sulla pelle.

Così come tutte le altre in mostra, le fotografie di Valentino Bellini potrebbero essere lette nel loro particolare, uno tra tanti, unico e distintivo. Che sia stato voluto per necessità reportagistiche o dettato dal caso non importa: la bellezza e l’innocenza del lavoro di Valentino è proprio questa. Il non essere esclusivamente Reporter o Ritrattista fa di lui un fotografo accattivante e a tutto tondo. Mai pretestuoso o prevedibile. Silenzioso.

The Republic of Ghana. What probably comes to mind when thinking about these places is only poverty and exploitation, where they all work alike. Data found in part. In the Republic of Ghana the age of life is longer in women than in men and an infant mortality rate is very high compared to the average Western. There, always in the Republic of Ghana, is also produced our wealth, one of the richest countries. This, however, leaves unchanged their perennial poverty.

Valentino Bellini is one of the many Italians who decided to turn the world, including Ghana. Use the photograph with a view to witness, document, narrate. Unpretentious to establish or define the identity of a people, and explores Valentino puts us in front of so many truths. Because basically there is no certainty that will give us a unique view of the whole. Everything is shown, starting from those places, those of Ghana. From the men who work there, by their looks, their moods, their traits, their powerful shoulders and arms, from their hands. Every shot of Valentino is a focus on a particular topic. From general to specific, so that his images are resolved. For each broad landscape, both natural and industrial, is the human presence. Always men, diverse in age, they differ from each other for the features, the weariness of their faces. But also for their eyes. You could dig into them for groped to know what ever have thought at the time of the shooting or how it would take to appear.

For a few moments "players", but never in front of posing as a target, the subjects represent themselves: in their simplicity, in their being men during a normal working day. Like many others, photographs of Valentino Bellini could be read in their own, one of many unique and distinctive. What was wanted reportagistiche or necessity dictated by the case no matter: the beauty and innocence of Valentino's work is this. The Reporter or not only makes him a portrait painter and photographer, winning the round. Never pretentious or predictable. Silent.
