The Kravets/Wehby Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Summer Show, a group exhibition of painting and sculpture by Caitlin Cherry, Wendell Gladstone, Charlie Roberts, Justin Samson, and Christian Schumann, opening on Thursday, June 21 and running through August (by appointment).
In Summer Show, the artists present new large scale works. Caitlin Cherry’s sculptural painting subverts images from childhood—a black Santa Claus and an anthropomorphic bunny—positing once childlike icons in the epicenter of a perverse chaotic scene. Wendell Gladstone’s diptych presents a grotesque barbershop quartet in the midst of a gluttonous celebration; towering over a group of less fortunate figures, hats out awaiting an offering. Charlie Roberts’ rough-hewn wood sculpture displays representations of death and reverence intertwined with surprising delicacy. Justin Samson makes a drastic departure from his previous works by delving deeper into expressionistic abstraction through manipulation of oil paint and fiberplast. Christian Schumann’s vividly colored painting presents an amalgam of exploding human figures, geometric shapes, and mushrooms stretching across the large diptych.
Opening Reception: Thursday, June 21, 6 - 8 pm
