Political presentation
The Valencia Biennial is a project sponsored by the Generalitat Valenciana - Valencia's regional assembly - and organised by the assembly's Cultural and Artistic Heritage Department.
Under the management of Luigi Settembrini, the Biennial is based on two basic considerations. The first is that nowadays all contemporary culture languages (from plastic art to fashion, cinema, advertising, theatre, music, photography, architecture, design, television, dance, etc.) occupy the same sphere: innovation. This forces the different languages to set up a dialogue, to integrate and to confront eachother, not simply in a specific area but in a field which is, by definition, a core of magma in constant evolution.
The second consideration is that communication, through the enormous power bestowed on it by TV, the press and the Internet, is reducing the Global Village to something microscopic and is providing all these languages with continuous and identical opportunities, not only for their reach, but also for confrontation and conflict.
These considerations create the need for a new perspective. The Biennial wants to be a privileged observation point of this phenomenon, that represents the ideas, projects, work and energy of the most significant contemporary talents. A great international review to be held every two years in order to probe creative communication between the languages and nurture the artistic situation of the moment.
