Gallery Ho is pleased to present Hyungsub Shin and Junghyung Lee’s group show “Two in White.” Their art
works suggest a new type of catharsis to viewers with the elimination of colors. The exhibition will be on the
view from January 31st through Fabruary 23rd, 2013
Hyungsub Shin and Junghyung Lee’s artwork shows a common feature. While it appears to be broken glasses,
Shin’s Unbreakable Frangment settles a person’s uneasy mind that may feel depressed or tense. His work firstly
seems like a destructive phenomenon, but soon these tragically demolished paper cuts are reborn as a well-
organized structure. On the contrast, Lee’s Aural Visions are immediately visible as a modulated structure of
music in rhythmic order; however it also presents the craving desire of the artist through deconstructive
sculpture. He is eager to express musical sound through complex lines and particular curves.
Paradoxically both art works contain a calm a white medium. This medium transmits the oppression of
feelings. Moreover, it will dissolve the personal ideas of audience and artists themselves. Delicate
structures and demolished configurations express their passion for the emotional freedom, which passes the
language barrier and cultural difference.
The white scene of violence and form of the dismantled piano exist between preserved serene past and ruined
future. The phenomenon of the momentary existence stimulates audiences’ imagination of the
fundamental nature of the object. Audiences’ own creativity brings the future resurrection from
deconstruction. Innocent white art works will absorb the colors of ones mind and create a new perception and
draw two different ways of catharsis.
