In this exhibition of new wall-based works, Jacob Kassay engages the specific spatial properties of The Kitchen gallery and building, seeking to affect and augment one’s experience of the room by attending to the shifting visual field and a variety of supports. Grounded in Kassay's interest in how reductive formal strategies serve the quality of one’s attention, the installation is also informed by thoughts about silence, resonance, and introspection.
A performance with percussionists Will Redman and Kevin Shea takes place on Friday, January 25 between 7 and 9pm on both the ground floor and second floor spaces. This event is free and the audience can come and go at any time.
In the performance, Redman (of Microkingdom and The Compositions) and Shea (of Talibam! and Mostly Other People Do The Killing) will interpret a graphic score created by Kassay.
Jacob Kassay was born in Lewiston, NY. He received his BFA from State University of New York at Buffalo and now lives and works Los Angeles. This is the artist’s first solo show in New York in nearly 4 years. Recent solo shows include Art: Concept, Paris; Protocinema, Istanbul; and The Power Station, Dallas (Catalogue).
