The Belgian artist is the second presented in the exhibition series. In her work with painting, performance, drawing, collages, sculptures and artist books she wishes to question the world and her own position as a young artist.
On the first day of each month for one year, a new exhibition opens for which an invited artist will have sent works and materials by post. The staff at Kunsthal Charlottenborg are responsible for installing the exhibition following the artist’s enclosed instructions. The exhibition series started 1 February 2013.
The Belgian artist Nel Aerts is the second artists presented in the exhibition series POST.
Nel Aerts (1987) is an artist who navigates between a variety of media. In her work with painting, performance, drawing, collages, sculptures and artist books she wishes to question the world and her own position as a young artist. Nel Aerts’ imagery flirts with popular culture and relates strongly to everyday objects. Using a generous helping of humor, Aerts merges her fantasy, her surroundings and the art scene into a whole which is both poetic and playful, as well as absurd and grotesque.
For POST Nel Aerts unfolds a sculptural figure that was previously part of the performance Running in between high fiving hands. This figure becomes a wax candle edition, which can be used for the sealing of a letter.
Nel Aerts lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium, she graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Ghent and has previously exhibited at WIELS, Brussels; SMAK, Antwerp and Frankendael Foundation, Amsterdam.
