Eight projects between art and film production by both art-superstar and emerging young artists. This exhibition presents work by Matthew Barney and Pierre Huyghe, feature filmmaker Neil Jordan, Tacita Dean and Lorna Simpson, plus Andrea Fraser, Donald Moffett and Turkish filmmaker Kutlug Ataman.
Sample eight exemplary projects in the artistic medium of the moment—film/video installation. This exhibition presents work by renowned young artists Matthew Barney and Pierre Huyghe (both recipients of the Guggenheim Museum's prestigious Hugo Boss Prize), feature filmmaker Neil Jordan (who directed the Oscar-winning The Crying Game), former Wexner Center Residency Award artists Tacita Dean and Lorna Simpson, plus Andrea Fraser, Donald Moffett, and Turkish filmmaker Kutlug Ataman.
Image Stream explores the resurgence of narrative approaches in moving image works and documents the importance of moving images to contemporary art practices including painting and sculptural installation. Each work offers an intriguing approach to this genre, investigating different modes of storytelling and drawing on visual forms associated with Hollywood and auteur films and television, whether MTV or CNN.
Organized by Chief Curator of Exhibitions Helen Molesworth, Image Stream will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue. The exhibition will be on view at The Belmont Building, home to last year's popular exhibition From Pop to Now: Selections from the Sonnabend Collection.
