In the Foyer Gallery, Artspace features "The Figure," pastel works by gallery member emeritus, Beatrice K. Klein. Trained at the Maryland Institute College of Art, the Art Students League with Yasuo Kuniyoshi, the Hans Hoffman School and with VCU printmaker Philip Wetton, Beatrice Klein has maintained a broad and active exhibition record that began with her first solo exhibition at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in 1956. This presentation of recent works in pastel is her first exhibition since 1993, when a retrospective show of her work was held at Artspace. Klein states, "Although I have always been retrospective to the major shifts of modernist art, it is always rewarding and comfortable to return to the figure."

Exhibiting in the Helena Davis Gallery is "The Things I Know," mixed-media drawings by Linda Laino. The works on view are a continuation in the artist's interest in and exploration of organic forms and biology. Fusing them with memory and experience, Laino wishes to explore the connection humans have to nature and how it informs our sensory contact with the world. Forms such as cocoons, eggs, boxes and sacs with their suggestion of hidden space and their promise of revelation, birth, change and growth also invite mystery, shelter, containment, envelopment and death.

Featured in the Main Gallery is "The Pathway of Least Resistance," a collection of works from "The Deluge Series," created by internationally acclaimed artists Rian Kerrane and Mark Guilbeau. The Deluge Series is a series of collaborative installations begun in 2000 and named after Leonardo da Vinci's flood drawings, which document the end of the world by natural disaster. The Pathway of Least Resistance is a collective of drawings and assemblages exploring the concepts, materials and images from The Deluge Series. Guilbeau's drawings are a combination of architectural renderings and collage and are studies for previous and future Deluge Series installations. Kerrane has created a work entitled A Hundred and Three Intimacies or The Periodic Table of Elements. Each of the 103 panels presents the found object in conjunction with drawing and collage as examination of childhood, anniversaries, the domestic, and the female role in marriage and society. The artists believe this series allows the concurrent energies of masculine and feminine thought-scapes to tangle and blur in the gallery space, just as they tangle and blur proscribed lines of identity within the collective or personal psyches of life.

In the Skylight Gallery, Artspace member, Alan D. Entin is exhibiting a collection of photographic works entitled "Where Magic Interferes with Reality." The photographs on view were taken in Paris, France using a Holga Camera. Entin believes the camera reflects the quaint and timeless atmosphere of Paris, and the "accidental" qualities attributed to Holga photographs further enhance the city's magic. These images of abstracted realties are filled with visual ambiguities. Entin hopes to communicate an impression of infinite possibilities for the viewing audience though this series of images.
