The exhibition "Desiring the Real" presents works by 25 Austrian artists who explore different models of reality and place this notion at the centre of their work. It is about subjectively experienced reality, staged reality, but also about developing alternative solutions and spaces for reality and contrasting them with oneʼs own concept of what is "real". The works of these artists, some internationally known and others young and emerging, are about a rearrangement of the experience ofreality, a different approach to and use of images, and thus a reshaping of the world of the visible, conceivable andpossible. But the exhibition is also about the beauty of individual works of art, and, even more, about people, their social relationships, their expectations and their desires.
The exhibition Desiring the Real was launched by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture, Department of International and Cultural Affairs. Jewish Bakery, Galata and Austrian Cultural Forum are other venues in which works from this extensive show can be seen. It presents works that have been purchased for Austrian Federal Collection Artothek over the past years, supplemented by works on loan. The exhibition has been on tour since April 2012, its first stops being Belgrade, several museums in Mexico and Cuba, Zagreb and Skopje.
