Eugene Delatre & Alfredo Muller. Views of Montmartre, cafe'-concert performers, portraits of actresses
The exhibition brings to life the golden age of printmaking in Montmartre around 1900. It was here that Eugene Delatre (1864-1938), master of etching, introduced numerous artists such as Muller, Picasso, Toulouse-Lautrec and Steinlen, to his techniques. The Museum displays his major pieces: views of Montmartre and its nightlife, portraits. Alfredo Muller's (1869-1939) full range of subject matter is represented in the exhibition: views of Montmartre, cafe'-concert performers, portraits of such actresses as Sarah Bernhardt, Suzanne Despres and Cleo de Merode in their popular theatrical roles, as well as Muller's interpretation of scenes from Dante's Vita Nuova.
