_____________
'Art Nova': Spotlight on New Art
In its second edition, the international art show Art Basel Miami Beach launches
a new special sector called 'Art Nova'. Emerging galleries can benefit from
attractive rates for showing the latest works of their artists. Thus, Art Basel
Miami Beach is consistent with its policy of promoting young art. 'Art Nova'
lets visitors experience exciting encounters with fresh works directly from
studios around the globe. The new special sector is also an ideal platform for
sounding out current developments in art. Art Basel Miami Beach takes place from
December 4 to 7, 2003.
With 'Art Nova', Art Basel Miami Beach is launching a further special sector
where emerging galleries can benefit from attractive rates for showing the
latest works of their artists. The Selection Committee chose 13 galleries from
around 100 applications. Three each are from the USA and Germany, two from Great
Britain, one each from Brazil, Mexico, Austria, Italy and the Netherlands. With
'Art Nova', Art Basel Miami Beach provides emerging galleries with a chance to
make their debut appearance at a large international art fair. Some of the
participating galleries already showed last year in the special sectors 'Art
Statements' (see Art Statements press release) or 'Art Positions' (see Art
Positions press release), while other participants in 'Art Nova' are appearing
at Art Basel Miami Beach for the first time. The new special sector also offers
visitors an attractive platform with a concentrated view of a group of
interesting emerging artists.
The following galleries are participating in 'Art Nova':

activities was expanded to a gallery. In October 1999 the gallery moved to its
present location in the center of Vienna, together with two renowned galleries.
A new center of contemporary art and discussion was born due to joint openings,
film and video presentations as well as lectures. The program of the gallery is
based on international contemporary art. The focus lies on artistic positions
that combine different experiences: science, politics, social responsibility and
cultural aspects. The gallery invites arrived and young artists to develop
conceptions of space, and represents successful Austrian artists as Christine
and Irene Hohenbüchler, Lois Weinberger, Gregor Zivic, Jun Yang and others.
Kuckei + Kuckei (Berlin)
The gallery, founded by Ben Kuckei and Hannes Kuckei, made its first public

event, the gallery helped the individual artist or the group of artists in
finding a suitable location. Kurimanzutto's opening exhibition, for example, was
a one-day event at a rented market stand for tropical fruit in Mexico City. The
second exhibition took place in a former carpet store, in which each artist
installed his or her living room. The gallery would like to transcend the
boundaries between the local and international art scenes, between individual
and collective works, and between galleries and artists.

round forms of metal that is ideal for Kenny Schachter's group exhibitions with
international artists.

internationally renowned artists, but also introduced a group of young artists
