comunicato stampa

Elizabeth Murray (1940–2007) was a celebrated painter, draftsman, printmaker, and winner of the MacArthur “genius” grant (1999).

Murray’s art, based on objects and occurrences from everyday life, has been described as “cerebral,” “complex,” and “zany.” Roberta Smith wrote in the artist’s New York Times obituary that Murray “reshaped Modernist abstraction into a high-spirited, cartoon-based, language of form whose subjects included domestic life, relationships and the nature of painting itself.”

This exhibition of 42 prints presents, for the first time, all the artist’s editioned works created at Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE), beginning in 1986 and continuing for the last two decades of the artist’s prolific career.

Several paintings by Murray are also on view. Works are loaned by the Fearer/Randel Collection and ULAE. Read the press release.
