International participation in Art Rotterdam 2014
The organization of Art Rotterdam is pleased to announce that the 15th edition of Art Rotterdam
(6 till 9 February 2014) once again shows a large participation of international galleries:
more than 50% of the galleries is from abroad.
Notable is the increase in German and English participation with their most important upcoming
young galleries. Next to galleries from among others France, Switzerland and Denmark there are
debutants present from Hungary, Greece and Japan.
Art Rotterdam moves to the Nellefabriek
Over the past 15 years Art Rotterdam has become the international fair in the Netherlands
where you can find young art. The next edition (6 till 9 February 2014) takes place at a very
special location: the Van Nellefabriek in Rotterdam, built in 1931 and an icon of post WW I
modern architecture.
By making use of two beautiful spaces at the Van Nellefabriek (the Coffee Factory and the
Tobacco Factory) the fair extends from 75 to more than 90 participating galleries.
Both the New Art Section as well as the in 2013 successfully launched video section Art
Rotterdam Projections are important parts of the fair.
At the New Art Section 25 young galleries present solo exhibitions by upcoming and
promising artists. The selection for the New Art Section has been made by Witte de With, the
internationally well-known Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam.
The first edition of Art Rotterdam Projections was a huge success and was well received by both
press and public. In 2014 the video section Projections will be an integral part of the fair in the Van
Nellefabriek. 18 films and videos are shown on large screens in a, worldwide unique, open and
interactive setting.
Fair director Fons Hof
Fons Hof (1966), former gallery director of Gallery Hof & Huyser in Amsterdam, is the
director of Art Rotterdam: "Art Rotterdam is firmly secured in the calender of European collectors of
young art. To further strengthen the international profile of the fair we started Art Rotterdam
Projections in 2013. Projections is the international meeting place for lovers, collectors and curators
of film and video art".
During Art Rotterdam the Van Nellefabriek, its surrounding area and the city centre are once again
bubbling with energy, with side fairs, pop-up shows, open studios and beautiful museum exhibitions.
