comunicato stampa

London, UK – On 28 May 2014, the Saatchi Gallery will open Abstract America Today, an exhibition showcasing a vibrant new generation of artists from the USA. The exhibition features nine contemporary artists working in a variety of mediums. Far from being reductive, their work if often complex and diverse.

They employ techniques from folk art, ideas from performance art and borrow the language of post-war abstract expressionism as readily as those of digitised computer motifs and popular culture. By adapting these different visual languages, the artists in Abstract America Today create an exciting range of work celebrating the legacy of Abstraction. Like America itself, their work is epic and expansive, loud and confident, reflecting the simultaneous brutality and romance of the big city and the big country.

Abstract America Today will be set over an entire floor, and continues the Gallery's 25-year-long history of supporting emerging artists, and its drive to make contemporary art as widely accessible as possible to a British and international audience. The exhibition will enable artists at the early stages of their careers to have their work displayed to a wide audience, and also gives visitors to the Gallery a chance to discover some of the most exciting new artists based in America.

Abstract America Today features work by Lisa Anne Auerbach, Trudy Benson, Paul Bloodgood, Keltie Ferris, Wyatt Kahn, Ivan Morley, Jackie Saccoccio, Brent Wadden and Cullen Washington Jr. Abstract America Today opens to the public on 28 May. Entry is free.
