History of a Project. The exhibition comprises 28 series of postage stamps of Liechtenstein issued at different periods in the past (the oldest stamp on display dates back to 1937).
The Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the Liechtenstein
National Museum present the exhibition “Stamps of the Principality
of Liechtenstein. History of a Project.” The exhibition is part of
the festivities marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment
of diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and the
Principality of Liechtenstein.
The exhibition comprises 28 series of postage stamps of
Liechtenstein issued at different periods in the past (the oldest
stamp on display dates back to 1937). The postage stamp series of
the Postal Service of Liechtenstein “In the Wake of A. V. Suvorov in
Switzerland” and the stamps printed especially for the 2014 Winter
Olympics in Sochi.
The year 2012 marked the 100th anniversary of Liechtenstein’s
first postage stamp. The festivities kicked off by the unveiling of
the exhibition “100 Years of the Postage Stamps of Liechtenstein.
1912-2012” held in a local museum of the postal service. The exhibits
traveled to Russia as “The Postage Stamps and their Prototypes”,
an exhibition held in the Orenburg Regional Museum of Fine Arts
from August to October of 2013. The exhibits were also displayed
on the venue of the Sverdlovski Regional Studies Museum later in
November that year and December of 2013.
The exhibition consists of three parts. Part one, the historical one,
enables the spectator to take a closer look at the development of
the postal system of Liechtenstein. Part two includes a 10-stamp
series of the postage stamps of the Liechtenstein Postal Service
titled “In the Wake of A. V. Suvorov in Switzerland”. It was issued in
2014 by the Philatelic Service of Liechtenstein to commemorate
the 215th anniversary of the march of the Russian troops under
General Suvorov through the Alps. The stamps bear images of
10 paintings by the artist Alex Doll. Part three features a postage
stamp issued by the Postal Service of Liechtenstein to mark the
22nd Winter Olympics in Sochi. The stamp is based on the sketches
of Alex Doll and Natalia Brovko who won the Sochi Olympics
competition for the best design of the indication of the postage.
The above issue was printed by a thermographic imaging method
using paint in which the tiniest granite chipplings from the mountain
mass Krasnaya Polyana had been added. Thus, every stamp
contains a “little bit of Sochi.”
Alois, Hereditary Prince of the Liechtenstein, who will be in Moscow
with a working visit, will attend the opening of the exhibition as
a special guest.
The exhibition is supported by the Russian Academy of Arts,
the Embassy of Switzerland in Russia, the Philatelic Service
of Liechtenstein, the Postal Service of Liechtenstein and the
Liechtenstein National Museum.
