Stuttering. A series of new productions linked with existing works of art takes over the space to its full extent in his exhibition. "Through poetics combining intentions and viewpoints, it is not a case of contrasting between seeing and showing but more to ensure coexistence so that affects arise."
The major summer exhibition at the CRAC Languedoc-Roussillon is devoted to the artist Melik
Ohanian. A series of new productions linked with existing works of art takes over the space
to its full extent in his exhibition called Stuttering*. It should be approached like an arrangement
of experiences or perceptions and at the same time identifies a sometimes silent, sometimes
animated collection of fragments or topography of the artist’s memory or memories, like a
memory game. So Melik Ohanian leads us into a world governed by science and politics, via
historical realities, or through the collective imagination, that through vibratory devices between
them and on them, are avenues to question or evaluate our relationship with the world.
The space or timeframes between the works of art are, for the artist, spiral gears that are as
important as the works of art themselves. Through poetics combining intentions and viewpoints,
it is not a case of contrasting between seeing and showing but more to ensure coexistence so
that affects arise.
Melik Ohanian was born in 1969 and lives in Paris as well as in New York. He is part of a
generation of artists that introduce their insight through multiple mediums. His devices deploy
a rich array of visual objects around the status of image and the concept of time above all.
The sciences and philosophy are there as a backdrop to hone his research and areas of interest.
He has participated in large international events and exhibited in many prestigious institutions.
He is represented by Galerie Chantal Crousel Paris.
Exhibited by the FRAC Languedoc-Roussillon when he started out, he was spotted by Ami
Barak who is currently invited by the CRAC to join the curatorship of the Stuttering project
and its circulation.
The Stuttering project was enabled thanks to the support of Galerie Chantal Crousel.
* Stuttering: to speak with an involuntary repetition of sounds. The artist chose this title after Deleuze, ‘the
structure is not significant, nor is the organisation of it measured, nor is it spontaneously inspired or
orchestrated, or a refrain. It is an arrangement, an arrangement of enunciations.’
