Anne Graham is an artist, Head of School of Fine Arts, Faculty of Arts and Social Science at the University of Newcastle and chairs its Post Graduate Research Committee. Her sculptural installations are presented not only in gallery exhibitions but also in public spaces in cities and communities, nationally and internationally. Her work responds to the histories of places and is readily accessible to the communities who occupy these places. Her work could be described as three dimensional portraiture. During her occupancy and discreet intervention into the social fabric of given locations, she accumulates photographs and interviews that, over time, describe the spaces and their stories. Graham exhibits nationally and internationally and was recently one of the international artists invited to participate in the Echigo-Tsumari Necklace project organised by Art Front Gallery in Tokyo. In 1995 she held a solo exhibition at the Hinode-Machi Gallery in Tokyo as part of the residency exhibition programme.
Recently, she was represented in Construction and Process, an exhibition featuring artists from 25 countries held in Poland in June 2000. She has also been nominated for the National Association of Women in Construction Award and received a merit award for her work, Passage, located in Martin Place Sydney as part of the City of Sydney Sculpture Walk.
