To coincide with the Photography Oxford Festival 2014, the Ashmolean is collaborating with the Oxford Times to celebrate their 150th anniversary, with a special display of photographs from their extensive archive. 15 photographs will be on display in the Ashmolean Café and will show how the Oxford Times has been at the forefront of documenting the history of Oxford, from the beginnings of press photography in the 19th century, to the present day.
The display includes photographs documenting several visits from the royal family throughout the 20th century; Oxford's sporting successes across the years; images of the city during both World Wars; general strikes, rioting hooligans, and many other photographs showing how the Oxford Times reported on the stories that affected the city and its residents.
Photography Oxford Festival takes place between 14 September and 5 October 2014.
The exhibition is organised by the Ashmolean Museum in collaboration with The Oxford Times.
