ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Severe Negotiations is a three-person show presenting the work of Carrie Paterson, Kim Russo and Eve Wood. Each of their works explores different aspects of an unsympathetic reality: dysfunctional architecture, lack of intimacy, and disturbing family history.

Carrie Paterson's installation includes a simulated elevator cab and models that deal with the present day culture of fear, myths surrounding American class mobility, and the concept of disaster. In her dysfunctional architecture, progress is arrested, opening a sculptural "space for argument."

Kim Russo's watercolors depict a woman interacting with a plastic blow-up doll in various rooms of her house and in public spaces. The juxtaposition of a woman and her plastic, unreal companion highlights the universal need for intimacy and partnership, and the sometimes extreme measures we will take to fulfill our desire for love.

Eve Wood presents a series of paintings whose central images are hooded Klu Klux Klan figures. The genesis of this work derives from the discovery of a family secret, namely that her great, great grandfather was a founding member of the KKK. She was intrigued as to how this information would translate into her life over time. The result are that these paintings which deal with family trauma, and the secrecy that surrounds our lives.
