Art at Large, New York

The Girls of Nine-Eleven. 'September 10, 2001 was a great day. That morning I caught the biggest fish of my life. That afternoon I had a new grandchild and was photographed for a poster at Coney Island. That evening I was at a charity auction for Friends in Deed at Christies NYC. The auction, 'Icons and Legends', was hosted by Richard Avedon and was a star-studded event, if there ever was one. I was especially pleased when I saw the auction catalog had my artwork listed as 'priceless.' Not bad for a kid from the Bronx, I thought.' 'Never Forget' - Spider Webb

The Girls of Nine-Eleven

Art @ Large is proud to present an exhibition of works by the legendary Spider Webb.

"September 10, 2001 was a great day. That morning I caught the biggest fish of my life. That afternoon I had a new grandchild and was photographed for a poster at Coney Island. That evening I was at a charity auction for Friends in Deed at Christies NYC. The auction, "Icons and Legends", was hosted by Richard Avedon and was a star-studded event, if there ever was one. I was especially pleased when I saw the auction catalog had my artwork listed as "priceless." Not bad for a kid from the Bronx, I thought.

"After cocktails with old and new friends, my agent Les Barany, my date for the evening, Dragonfly, and I stepped outside onto Rockefeller Center for a few quick photos. It was now September 11 and the rain had stopped. The city, my city, was clear, clean and wonderful. I went home to bed. When I awoke that morning of September 11, I was on 15th Street and 7th Avenue. All hell broke lose. Smoke, sirens, fighter jets in the air and debris flying all over the place.

"This was not September 10th anymore! When I got home to Connecticut I did what most of the country did - stayed glued to the television to see over and over and over again what I just saw live. To keep my sanity I picked up a pencil and started to sketch - and sketch I did. I sat in the same chair for seven months, seven days a week, eighteen hours a day. This series is a result of those seven months.
