Omnia. Precision, technical perfection and an utter care for detail characterise the black and white photographs of Balthasar Burkhard. Yet his works are not limited to the technical reproduction of reality, but consist of a constant search for the artistic potentials of photography. In Burkhards photographs, the objectivity of the rendered reality transforms itself into the reality of the independent image, which suggests immediacy.

Thanks to a subtle choice of photographic detail, Burkhard displaces the visible world towards the inner world of the spectator. This major retrospective spanning the whole work of the Swiss photographer at the Museum of Fine Arts, Berne, is a premiere, and will be accompanied by an exhibition catalogue retracing the development of the artist from his beginnings to today.
