Stick No Bill!

Within the walls of the city dwells another transitory world whose eyes follows and spy upon us from between the fissures. Inanimate matter takes life there. With the passing of time, the influence of cultures becomes a fresco, captured by the camera’s lens, which momentarily becomes the artist’s brush.”

What’s left on the walls of the bustling cities is the subject matter of French photographer Herve Conil’s solo photography exhibition Stick No Bill! at the SG Private Banking Gallery, Alliance Française de Singapour.

Forgotten debris – thick layers of posters on the walls reveal the quiet corners of the past. Herve travels around the world photographing these layers of posters which has its element of mystery unveiled by different cultures and traditions.

Stick No Bill! displays the transition of time that is captured by the camera lens of the photographer. Come see through Herve’s lens at this upcoming exhibition at the Alliance Française. This exhibition is sponsored by Air France.

Herve Conil will be here in Singapore for the official opening of Stick No Bill!.

"Strange doors that freeze the frame, torn.
The instant captured in the depth of colour as if in equation with the very moment and the solid matter

All that happens between the photographer and this wall, this poster, speaks, talks to me about intimacy.

It opens to the lens, the tear, a gap, a new creation that looks at me, that looks at us.

I can represent myself to be and to be born to the world as a system of rediscovery.

I am made of this world and I recognize it, thus this is a symbol.

The image is invoked, summoned under my eyes, it calls thus, it dances beneath my eyes, all depends on where I position myself.

I react constantly to my reality, my dreams, my fantasies. I appropriate the rhythm of uncertainty and stillness, I adapt my look.

I stray, my appetite is sharpened, my sensations increased, I open to the imaginary.
Art is master of the path that leads from the immediacy of my senses to the ultimate reality.

All that exists, all that leaves, and that is said here, it's the human and the enchantment of the world."
