Half a century of architecture 1928-1979

As you know, the Joan Miró Foundation presents “Sert, half a century of architecture 1928-1979”, an exhibition devoted to Josep Lluís Sert (Barcelona, 1901 – 1983), a personal friend of Miró and the architect of the Foundation, who was involved with it from the outset. The exhibition has the collaboration of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and is sponsored by COMSA and Caixa Catalunya, and the curators are Jaume Freixa and Josep Maria Rovira.

The aim of the show is to introduce the public to Josep Lluís Sert, the most international Catalan architect of the twentieth century, through a display of his work in a building that he himself designed, thus establishing an unusual relationship between container and content. Sert’s design of the Foundation’s different spaces – independent from but connected to each other – will enable visitors to perceive the visual tour as a form of conceptual planning.

“Sert, half a century of architecture 1928-1979” is an exhibition aimed at the ordinary viewer with an interest in architecture and planning, and provides an understanding of the scope and quality of the architect’s ideas during a lifetime of intense activity.

The exhibition has the support of the Department of Universities, Research and the Information Society of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Barcelona (ETSAB), the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura del Vallès (ETSAV), Laboratoris Color EGM and Fujifilm S.A., and has been organised in collaboration with the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.
