Project Space. Ian Davenport has created a new series of work especially for the ground floor gallery. His paintings are bold and vibrant. Davenport delights in the use of brightly coloured gloss paint that is poured, rather than painted, creating shiny surfaces reminiscent of billboards. The paintings are both theatrical and contemplative.

Project Space is a new initiative for Tate Liverpool - it seeks to show new work, made in response to the Gallery and to extend an artist's practice. The ground floor gallery is a very particular space, punctuated by six columns and with high walls. Davenport's paintings will take into account the peculiarities of the architecture to create a new body of work.
