New Paintings

Unveiling his “New Paintings,” the very alluring Zayas, has become known for his powerfully moody and sensual landscapes and seascapes created from light and dark weighty brushstrokes. After participating in more than 60 exhibitions and establishing an extensive list of private and corporate collectors, Zayas has reached a point in his career where he feels when the art begins to speak, the artist should quiet down. The much anticipated new works by Zayas are poetic in nature and reflective of the artist’s personal journeys. “These are some of my quietest paintings. There is a real stillness, but these works actually speak the loudest. It’s almost like looking into the eyes of a girlfriend, where the eyes tell the truth and the rest is a lie. She doesn’t need to say a word, but she is communicating in volumes,” Zayas comments. The truth here may be found in the delicate light of twilight captured by the new color palette in his latest works.

Passionate Objects

“Passionate Objects” is a culmination of paintings and sculptures by Yossi Govrin and Maddy Le Mel. The two artists will share art space in the gallery, but are completely unique in style. Govrin, who is also the gallery director of the Santa Monica Fine Art Studios, describes his works for this show to be about movement and change. His painting entitled “Random Flight” depicts a moment in flight when a flock of birds lose their formation after stopping to analyze the moment. “It really shows how one encounter or event can change or shape our lives one way or the other,” states Govrin. Le Mel’s works explore the notion of multiples. “Where one object might have little meaning, when it is multiplied it becomes an entirely new entity,” says Le Mel. Le Mel uses various medium in this exhibit including monotype on Japanese paper, LED lights on screening and plexi glass covering grains, nails, photos, wires and found objects. The piece titled “Loads” utilizes an old weight measure with multiple black stockings bound together with colored satin ribbon and filled with white grains to create texture.
