Bert Green Fine Art presents an important retrospective of the artwork of Joe Novak, which will fill all three interior gallery rooms through the fall. This show includes large canvases and 2 distinct bodies of works on paper: multi-plate aquatint etchings, and fumage drawings. These works are selected from his artistic production over the past 20 years.

Joe Novak's paintings are masterful abstractions which advance traditions established by such artists as Mark Tobey and Mark Rothko. Novak has established a signature style which incorporates color and light, producing an ethereal, vibrating presence. The commanding scale of the work demands attention on its own terms. Also included in the exhibition are two series of aquatint etchings which apply the same approach as the paintings into a smaller, more accessible medium. The "Voices" and "Voices 2" etchings series are printed on 22 x 30" paper in editions of no more than three. Finally, there are three fumage drawings which are experiments with the absence of color and light, a related but opposite approach to the other works in the show.

In the Project Windows, Jon Tarry explores non-functioning signs in a piece called "Walk Through LA." Shannon Lambert's sculptures highlight the natural beauty of discarded materials. Richard Ankrom has installed a frenetic neon installation contrasting additive and subtractive color.

All gallery events are free and open to the public.
