The Ownership Society is a collection of ink and graphite works on paper that explore the ideals of privatization and the
perceived notion that we can have control over environmental forces. Peterson’s works are filled with technical render-
ings of various edifices’ impending collapse, despite attempts at reinforcement.
This structural insecurity and implicit
community displacement is a result of the imagined effect of such disasters as earthquake and war. The tenuous buildings
signify the lack of alternative social solutions for extreme situations that disrupt the social order.
Based in Northern California, Ben Peterson has recently exhibited at the DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art, Ath-
ens, Greece, and White Columns, New York, and had gallery exhibitions in San Francisco, Milan, New York, Boston and
Washington DC.
This is Peterson’s first solo exhibition in Los Angeles.
