The exhibition features new lamps, small tables, and other sculptural objects. This work continues Pardo's interest in appropriating domestic architectural elements that are alluring, practical, and continuously question the viewer's definition and expectation of what one may consider traditional fine art.
Determined to stretch some of art's boundaries at the same time that, intriguingly, he's restoring others, Jorge Pardo has been at the forefront of a movement that incorporates design, architecture, and beauty into art. Biomorphic glass lamps and intricate plywood furniture; a futuristic bar in L.A.'s Chinatown and a beautiful hillside house in Puerto Rico; paintings and drawings with graphic flair - Pardo has created them all, reinvigorating an idea many thought could no longer hold air: people's personal relationship to aesthetics.
