Determined to stretch some of art's boundaries at the same time that, intriguingly, he's restoring others, Jorge Pardo has been at the forefront of a movement that incorporates design, architecture, and beauty into art. Biomorphic glass lamps and intricate plywood furniture; a futuristic bar in L.A.'s Chinatown and a beautiful hillside house in Puerto Rico; paintings and drawings with graphic flair - Pardo has created them all, reinvigorating an idea many thought could no longer hold air: people's personal relationship to aesthetics.

Friedrich Petzel Gallery is pleased to announce the sixth solo exhibition of new work by Los Angeles-based artist Jorge Pardo.
The exhibition will feature new lamps, small tables, and other sculptural objects. This work continues Pardo's interest in appropriating domestic architectural elements that are alluring, practical, and continuously question the viewer's definition and expectation of what one may consider traditional fine art."
Born in Havana, Cuba in 1963, Jorge Pardo has exhibited internationally at institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, Kunsthalle Basel and Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam, and several site-specific installations including the lobby and bookstore for the Dia Center for the Arts, and his own bar, The Mountain, in Los Angeles' Chinatown.
The exhibition will open on Thursday, June 8, with a reception from 6-8 p.m. and will remain on view through July. Friedrich Petzel Gallery is located at 535 West 22nd Street, New York, NY 10011.
