Sunflower: Heliotrophic Action. Installation site specific, complemented by "fff" drawings, is part of the permanent interactive art project "Traphos" (trafos-chasis), initiated in the first 1980s and actualized by Soskic under specific circumstances and in specific place.

"The sunflower. Heliotrophic Action" - installation site specific, complemented by
"fff" drawings, is part of the permanent interactive art project "Traphos"
(trafos-chasis), initiated in the first 1980s and actualized by Soskic under
specific circumstances and in specific place. It seems that Montenegro/Bar, is
Soskic's genius loci which has all the characteristics of the memorial encoding of
topography, stored in the memory of growing up. Traphos - "axiom form - forma madre"
as "mental nucleus" of the potent autochthon energy in "The Sunflower. Heliotrophic
Action" synergizes the idea of the flower which follows the trajectory of the sun
through Soskic's placing of the wooden, rough pomegranate poles from Bar (from
Soskic's land/estate) and crude sea salt from Ulcinj. Wooden blockheads make radial
circle around the beaker of salt which is in the center. Such unique heliocentric
object is actually a hymn to the Sun - to the eternal light, hymn to nature - to the
eternal circling. Dialectics of the circle - dialectics of the opinion. "Maximum of
energy in minimal space".
Why the sunflower cannot teach the man what he is to think/do, how to behave, what
to believe in?
Maybe the answer lies in number Tre, in the "triangle of wisdom", how to change from
the form of the circle to the triangle form? Soskic offers the answer - simple and
easy - through "cosmic intelligence", by the "logic of the totality in the perfect
peace". Using the symbolic-semantic model (sunflower, tree, salt) the artist
explores the fundamental idea of space/time which is based on the personal
experience.
Arts, Politics, Philosophy are the equivalents for the "triangle of wisdom" -
Avanguarde, Revolution, Vision, transmuted as the Stain, Formulation, Formula in the
Soskic's drawings. Physical presence of the artist in specific time - period of
political turbulences and social transmutations/transition, on a clearly determined
place- Montenegro - Bar, tells us that Soskic consciously puts into context and
studiedly throws himself into a direct engagement, open and prepared for action.
What action? He does not know. He supposes. He knows that he has to be present with
his creative-living energy exactly now and exactly here. In "Mental diary" he
precisely records his philosophical-mathematical explorations. Certain pages, 40 of
them, were created here and are being exhibited here in Bar. Continuing with his own
discourse he elaborates "entcheidungsproblem" (axiom which calls for the examination
of the given values), which has, with the Wittgenstain`s quote ("Mathematical
proposition is never the one we need in life but it is the one we need in order to
be able to conclude"), become Soskic`s new art ideology.
The process of concluding incites the process of convulsion (conclusion/convulsion).
The mental cramp, "intellectual obtuseness" initializes as a reaction "reaction of
opposition" to general social crisis, to the loss of values, when the "need/search
for the meaning becomes the prerequisite for social survival." (I. Soskic.)
Hilbert`s "theoretical skepticism", Wittgenstain`s tautology (language-language),
Ramsey's "visual camp", result in Soskic`s drawings in utterly fascinating game on
paper, play with three elements: with formula, formulation and the stain (in Serbian
"fleka") - "fff". Where science cannot give answers, because of the absence of exit,
and becomes, as Hilbert says "mathematical scribble on paper", Soskic finds answers
in art.
Meta-mathematical drawings are done fast, on fax paper which allows for their, also
prompt circulation in the world. Accumulation and multiplication of "fff " drawings
in succession, creates the impression of watching a film tape which endlessly
continues its movement.
Specific linguistic hermetism of Soskic's work explicitly calls for "versed reader".
He himself says that his idea for this occasion has been to tell a complex problem
in simple terms.
Interactive philosophical-artistic game of "fff" drawings with natural-metaphysical
elements: space - time - sea salt - solar energy - pomegranate - personal experience
- mental recordings, form a unique "tableau-vivant" which is Soskic's art.
"I believe that only art as a sunflower moves in compliance with the universal
energy" (Ilija Soskic).
ILIJA SOSKIC (1935) is a Rome-based performance and media artist from Yugoslavia. .
He had his first solo show, while still a student at Belgrade Art Academy, at the
same gallery: Centre for Culture Bar, in 1962. In 1968, Soskic moved to Italy.
