Third edition. Spread over one big space of 3900mq, young galleries, artists' networks, art spaces, freelance curators and other projects will present recent works by contemporary artists, beyond the mainstream, not dictated by commercial constraints. It will include 40 exhibitions.
A chance to discover new artists
Following the phenomenal success last year of its second edition, the third BERLINER KUNSTALON will be held in the autumn of 2006. It will include 40 exhibitions, illustrating why Berlin's international reputation as a dynamic centre for the arts is well deserved.
Spread over one big space of 3900 square metres, young galleries, artists' networks, art spaces, freelance curators and other projects will present recent works by contemporary artists, beyond the mainstream, not dictated by commercial constraints, in a consciously generous exhibition space from minimal 50 m². The BERLINER KUNSTSALON was conceived as a complementary programme to the 'Kunstherbst Berlin' (Art Autumn), providing a forum for discussion and contacts. Visitors are provided with glimpses into the young art scene in a way that is not available anywhere else.
The 1st BERLINER KUNSTSALON in 2004 was initiated by its director Edmund Piper. He does not, by any means, see this event as competing with the art fairs ART FORUM BERLIN, Preview Berlin and Berliner Liste, which are held at the same time of year.
On the contrary, it provides another perspective of the current realities of the upcoming international art scene today: while the big art fairs show new works of already well known artists the BERLINER KUNSTSALON offers the chance to discover new artists.
The BERLINER KUNSTSALON is a magnet for art collectors, curators and gallerists and of course an art-interested public. As the Salon is at the same time as the Art Forum Berlin it profits from the large number of international art buyers and experts that are in the city and offers them the chance to discover new young modern artists at the BERLINER KUNSTSALON. The goal of the BERLINER KUNSTSALON is to attract an educated public who are open to new movements and setting trends.
For the BERLINER KUNSTSALON a catalogue with about 320 pages will be published (Format: 16 cm x 23 cm, on the inside printed on 135 gm² paper, on the outside with UV varnished on ca. 250 gm² paper, with adhesive binding). The catalogue will give information about the exhibitions seen at the BERLINER KUNSTSALON as well as informing about participants addresses, phone-numbers and mails etc.
