Second edition of the art fair. Thirty carefully selected galleries from the Nordic region will show local and international contemporary art. For 2007 the goal has been to increase participation from neighboring Nordic countries.
Contemporary Art Fair
MARKET, the Nordic fair for contemporary art, will open at the Royal Swedish
Academy of Fine Arts in central Stockholm from 22-25 February 2007. Thirty
carefully selected galleries from the Nordic region will show local and international
contemporary art. One of MARKET’s goals for 2007 is to further strengthen the
presence of galleries from other Nordic countries. MARKET is therefore pleased to
welcome several leading galleries from our neighboring countries.
Preparations for MARKET 2007 are in full swing following the successful launch of the
fair in February of this year. The art public’s appreciation for a high quality, centrally
located Stockholm fair was evident in both the numerous visitors and the media attention
attracted this year. MARKET puts Swedish and Nordic galleries in the spotlight and
participating galleries show a wide selection of the most exciting in contemporary art.
MARKET is proud of its relationship with the distinguished Royal Swedish Academy of
Fine Arts and the choice of venue gives the fair its unique character.
MARKET’s primary goal is to create the best possible meeting place for galleries and the
art-interested public. The fair’s vision is to be the Nordic art scene’s foremost fair for
high quality art. For 2007 the goal has been to increase participation from our
neighboring Nordic countries. Five of the 30 selected galleries are non-Swedish,
compared to last year’s three.
”We are particularly pleased that two strong Danish galleries with differing profiles –
Nils Staerk and Mogadishni – applied to MARKET this year. We are also glad to once
again welcome Galerie Anhava from Helsinki, Galleri Bo Bjerggaard from Copenhagen
and Galleri Riis from Oslo and are proud that MARKET has again attracted the leading
Swedish galleries,” says Cecilia Hillström, project manager for MARKET.
MARKET took place for the first time in February 2006 at the initiative of a group of
galleries aiming to create a high quality art fair in Stockholm. The exceptionally positive
reception from both galleries and the public made a continuation self-evident. MARKET
now plans to be an annual event and dates are already booked for the next two years.
