Mark McGowan is renowned in London for his witty and sometimes bizarre performance work. He has been featured in Art Monthly, Evening Standard, South London Press and been covered by BBC and ITV television and BBC Radio London Live. Previous performances include 'Doing Things the Hard Way', which involved crawling from Peckham to Camberwell on his hands and knees with a stereo strapped to his back playing Frank Sinatra whilst singing 'I Did it My Way'. Then there was 'Couch', where the artist sat for a week on a sofa on top of a constructed 16ft high white cube shouting at a television, and 'Copshop', where he took over Camberwell police station with an interactive show of painting, sculpture, video and installation.

Mark will be performing four pieces at Clapham Art Gallery during the summer on four monthly Sunday afternoons. Entitled 'Peepers' and viewed through the window of Clapham Art Gallery, the series is an invitation to the voyeuristic to play voyeur. The first will feature Mark in bed; the second consists of the artist dressed as a snorkler singing the whole of 'Evita'. The third piece will be 'a violent argument between a man and a man dressed as a woman' in a sitting room setting and the final performance will feature a blindfolded nuclear family stumbling aimlessly around the space. With an added element of the unexpected and unplanned, anything could happen. The location of Venn Street in Clapham Common is perfect. Just off the main high street near Clapham Common tube and sited next to a bustling French restaurant with outside terrace and opposite a cinema, the performance will attract the attention of passers by and Sunday afternoon bar and cinema goers alike.

Clapham Art Gallery is delighted to work with Mark and present him with the opportunity to perform from an established commercial art space.
