On august the Musee is not just taking the city by storm. It is also hosting a significant portion of the Artcité exhibition at the museum itself!
54 artists of seven nationalities and from different generations, the 55 works shown at the Musée and around town cover four decades-from 1962 to 2000-with particular focus on the eighties and nineties. They use a wide range of mediums: painting, sculpture, installation art, video, photography, drawing and printmaking.
On august the Musee is not just taking the city by storm. It is also hosting a significant portion of the Artcité exhibition at the museum itself!
Each work included in the city-wide route is paired with another work installed in
our exhibition galleries.
How are the pairs chosen ?
The pairs are based on a similarity of content or shared formal characteristics
such as shape, colour, etc. In addition to certain affinities, they sometimes also
reveal differences. Brought together in these occasionally surprising tandems,
the works thus paint a living, hybrid, wide-open picture of contemporary art.
For each exhibition site under the heading Artcité around town, you will find all
the works presented in the various venues, as well as the pieces they are
paired with at the Musée. This way, you can form your own opinion about the
pairing!

FASHION
Tuesday, August 14, 2001
As part of the festivities launching the Artcité event, the Musée is presenting a
performance in which Montréal fashion designers Marie Saint Pierre, Michel
Desjardins, Nadya Toto, Jean-Yves Lacasse and Yso, working live on the site,
will produce creations with surprising and unusual materials.
GASTRONOMY
August 10 to October 8, 2001
Throughout the Artcité event, the Musée restaurant La Rotonde will feature
dishes proposed by participating artists and cooked up by its chef. Richard-Max
Tremblay, Marc Séguin, Angela Grauerholz, Sylvie Laliberté and Françoise
Sullivan have agreed to share their culinary tastes with us. A fun opportunity to
discover a new side to these artists.
PERFORMANCE: SYLVIE LALIBERTÉ
Wednesday, August 15, 2001 at 4 p.m.
Known first as a performance artist, and then as a video artist, printmaker and
photographer, Sylvie Laliberté holds a special place on the Québec visual arts
scene. In all her work-in which words are always of vital importance-she uses
humour and mockery, as well as delicacy and a good deal of candour and
poetry, to point out certain flaws in our civilization.
