New Photographs

Invisible NYC is proud to host, a solo-exhibit by photographer, John Bush. Born and raised in Santa Cruz California, John has been surrounded by the music, skate and art world for much of his life. A lifelong interest in capturing his personal experiences - people, travel and other unique events - has propelled John into the forefront of documentary photography. His bohemian-like wanderings eventually led him to New York over 13 years ago, where he has become a fixture in the downtown art and social scene, immersed in the hyperkinetic multi-media existence that is NYC.

John's travels have taken him to 54 countries, including a two-month stint documenting the war in Iraq. While John's personal passion encompasses the documentation of both the street life of his beloved NYC and the many cultures he has encountered through his travels, most of his professional work focuses on the music industry. Bands that he has photographed include the Foo Fighters, NOFX, Greenday, Yellowcard, The Vandals, as well as many others. Additionally John has traveled with the "Vans Warped Tour" capturing both the shows and the behind the scene's exploits. His band photographs have been used for albums and other commercial purposes, and have his photographs have been published in numerous magazines. John's work was the basis for a solo show at Max Fish and has been included in group shows at such venues as Dactyl Gallery.

For his exhibit at Invisible NYC, John will present new photographs of urban downtown NYC skate culture. Being immersed in the culture, John's photographs present a direct, intimate view into a unique world that few have the opportunity to experience first-hand. Rather than offering this lifestyle from the perspective the disassociated voyeur of a commoditized novelty, John's works present a sincere, moving, and precious glimpse into a gritty and wild way of life.
