Leafcutter John will be in residence at Beaconsfield, for the second
commission in the Soundtrap series (http://www.beaconsfield.ltd.uk/soundtrap) a
portfolio scheme for new sonic works.
London-based musician, composer and artist John Burton aka Leafcutter John,
will transform Beaconsfield's acoustically live Upper space a voluminous
19th c. schoolroom with a raked, wooden floor into an instrument for six
weeks.
Using sounds created by movement in the old floorboards, Leafcutter will
develop special software to create an innovative, participatory installation
wherein each visitor becomes implicated in the composition of a new duet
their presence triggering a variety of sonic responses.
The new commission includes research and development, a period of public
activation, a concert, a limited edition CD, broadcasts on Resonance 104.4
FM and live web streaming to the respective websites http://www.leafcutterjohn.com
and www.beaconsfield.ltd.uk with downloadable MP3's.
Leafcutter in Concert (7 July) will be a unique public event during which
the artist will play the instrument in collaboration with dancers to include
recordings taken from previous public interactions. Special guests to be
announced. Tickets in advance £12/£8 concessions (£15 on the door).
