Social Motions. Performance. Skulpturenpark is the stage for a mass choreography in the artist's project.
Social Motions
Katarina Sevic (Budapest) will use Skulpturenpark as a stage for a mass choreography in her project, Social Motions. The artist invites all spectators, residents, and passer-bysÝto take part. Without previous rehearsals and an undetermined turnout, the project welcomes various outcomes.
Social Motions experiments with the idea of mass patterns such as waiting in lines, crowd applause, and other instances of societal participation. Whether rehearsed or spontaneous, social formations reveal how a society orders itself, and at times, legitimizes its ideologies. In her choreography, Sevic attempts to subvert the conceptual, aesthetic, and symbolic values inherent in these forms by borrowing their gestures. As "choreographer", she further implicates herself as a facilitator and observer of those who would otherwise be her audience.
The performance will be documented on video and photo.
