Young Art in Danish Private Collections
Young Art in Danish Private Collections
Living rooms and kitchens, attics and cellars, secret storage spaces. The homes of the Danish art collectors are stuffed with spectacular, young art. The collectors are afflicted with a mad love for the art. It is their life blood. Their finger on the pulse, they are always hunting for their next find. Now they are giving us a unique glimpse of their collections.
19 Danish collectors are lending some of their best works for MAD LOVE. 136 works by 75 Danish and international artists are presented – from big, established names to new, in demand talents. Among them are German Jonathan Meese, American Dearraindrop, British David Shrigley, South Korean Osang Gwon, Mexican Dr. Lakra, South African William Kentridge, American Michael Bevilacqua and Norwegian Torbjørn Rødland. Featured are also Danish artists such as Olafur Eliasson, Tal R, Andreas Schulenburg, HuskMitNavn, Torben Ribe, Jes Brinch and Henrik Plenge Jakobsen.
The exhibition takes stock of the artistic creativity just now, whether it is beautiful or ugly, playful or serious, dreamy or strictly objective. Raw urban scenes are the breeding ground for many of the works. Others look as if they were dug out from the dark recesses of a toy store. The young artists raid the images and materials of popular culture, transforming their impressions into surreal, amusing, beautiful and grotesque works which both reveal and enchant our reality here and now.
