The Emerging Art Fair
This year, a former hangar at Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport will be transformed into the buzzing exhibition site of Berlin’s youngest art fair. Fifty seven national as well as international galleries and project spaces present works from a new generation of emerging artists. This is the place where collectors, specialists and art lovers will meet to experience the art of tomorrow. Preview Berlin works as a non-profit organisation and our third year is no exception. We are an art fair organised by galleries for galleries.
Preview Berlin – The Emerging Art Fair was launched in 2005 based on an initiative from four Berlin gallery owners: Kristian Jarmuschek (Galerie Jarmuschek und Partner), Tobias Kuttner (KUTTNER SIEBERT), Rüdiger Lange (loop – raum für aktuelle kunst) and Ralf Schmitt (Förderkoje ®). The aim of the organisers is to present ambitious, young art, still in its early stage, on the international art scene. In 2006, 12,000 enthusiastic visitors came to Preview Berlin. This year, the fair will, for the first time, take place in a former hangar at Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport where a total area of more than 4,200 m² will be the impressive stage for an exciting exhibition of art. Preview Berlin takes place at the same time as Art Forum Berlin.
Preview Berlin – The Emerging Art Fair is the Berlin-based platform for a young generation of national and international galleries and project spaces. Admission is through a committee which draws on recommendations from a broad network of gallery owners, curators and art specialists. The primary focus of the fair is on emerging artists from the Berlin art scene as well as from other hotbeds of artistic production in Europe and the rest of the world.
Since the beginning of 2007, Preview Berlin has been working with two other emerging international art fairs: Show Off in Paris and Swab in Barcelona. This year, we have a co-curated programme with which three galleries recommended by our exhibition partners gain access to Preview Berlin. In return, Preview Berlin will present its own selection at Show Off and Swab art fairs. With this close collaboration, we are continuing to develop and strengthen our international profile.
