Rose avec un bougie (Rose with a candle) is the painting that Luis Fernandez was working on at the time of his death on the 25th October, 1973. The composition follows a mathematical order where the volumes and rhythms have been carefully studied to immerse the viewer in a state of exacerbation followed by one of tranquillity.

Rose avec un bougie (Rose with a candle) is the painting that Luis Fernandez (Oviedo, 1900-Paris, 1973) was working on at the time of his death on the 25th October, 1973. This painting is one of his greatest achievements and, in it, can be seen the iconographic leitmotifs he most frequently recurred to in all his work: on the one hand, there is the rose, which represents the mystic renaissance ideals and perfection and, on the other hand, the candle, which is a symbol of intellectual clarity and of the spirit that creatively illuminates the subject matter.
